Calvary Chapel is a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Our Greatest desire is to know Christ and be conformed to His image by the power of the Holy Spirit. We are not a denominational church, nor are we opposed to denominations, as such. We are opposed only to the emphasis of Non-Biblical teaching that divides the Body of Christ. We believe the true basis of Christian fellowship is God's love, which is greater than our differences. Without His love, we have no right to say we are Christians.
• WE BELIEVE WORSHIP OF GOD SHOULD BE SPIRITUAL!
Therefore we remain flexible so the Holy Spirit may direct our worship.
• WE Believe WORSHIP OF GOD SHOULD BE INSPIRATIONAL!
Therefore we give a great place to music in our worship.
• WE BELIEVE WORSHIP OF GOD SHOULD BE INTELLIGENT!
Therefore, in our services, we emphasize Biblical teaching so God may instruct us how HE would be worshiped.
• WE BELIEVE WORSHIP OF GOD IS FRUITFUL!
Therefore we look for his Love in our lives as the Greatest evidence that we are truly worshiping Him.
ABOUT PASTOR DON MITCHELL
Pastor Mitchell graduated from Garland High School, Garland, Texas and received scholastic and athletic scholarships to Texas Lutheran University. He was blessed to play linebacker for 2 National Champion football teams and to have head coach Jim Wacker and defensive coordinator Bill Mueller as strong Christian leaders. After graduation from TLU he was accepted into the graduate program at Texas State University where he received his M.S. While attending graduate school he married Patricia (Hipe) Mitchell where they both rededicated their lives to the Lord and were baptized in water and the Holy Spirit. Since that time both of them have been active in Christian service. Pastor Mitchell has served as a Youth Leader, a Lay Pastor, and a Worship Leader. After moving to Salisbury Pastor Mitchell conducted church services at a nursing home on a monthly basis. A few years later he received a calling from the Lord to start a Calvary Chapel fellowship. He began teaching in his home to a captive audience; his wife and 3 children. Since that time the Lord added to His church and the fellowship moved out of the home. In 2004 Calvary Chapel Ocean Gateway was established in its current location. Pastor Mitchell also serves as volunteer Chaplain at Eastern Correctional Institution.
About Gatherings: CCOG uses Acts 2:42 as a model for its church services. Pastor Mitchell remains steadfast in the Apostle’s Doctrine by teaching verse by verse, in a practical and expositional style, through the entire Bible. CCOG believes this is the only way to give “the full counsel of God (Acts 20:27)”. We provide opportunities for group prayer, fellowship, and taking Holy Communion on a regular basis.
About Teaching: Jesus quoted Deuteronomy 8:3 saying “Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God”. We can become spiritually malnourished by seeking only emotional food, resulting in discontent and stunted growth. The remedy is the Word of God bringing life application (spiritual nourishment), as it is taught verse by verse, through the entire Bible.
About Worship: CCOG follows Psalm 95 as a model for having a time of praise. A time of worship through song precedes the Bible teaching so that hearts are prepared to receive the Word of God in faith. We believe a time of worship in song is not an end in itself but an opportunity to be surrendered to the Holy Spirit so He can equip us for the work of ministry through the teaching of scripture. We believe true worship is not a quest for an emotional high or the pursuit of an experience but a privileged opportunity to exalt the Name of the Lord by a life being lived in practical surrender to Jesus. We are more interested in the object of worship than the experience of worship so we present an opportunity to come to the “throne of grace” by music conducive to humble participation.
